About the Scholarship
- The Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme is a partnership between the UK Department for International Development (DFID) and UK universities, including the University of Edinburgh, to fund scholarships for students from developing Commonwealth countries who would otherwise be unable to study in the UK.
Scholarship amount details
- All tuition fees;
- Airfare to and from the United Kingdom;
- Expenses for accommodation and maintenance. Payments for the academic year 2021-2022 are set at £1,133 per month for the programme of study.
Eligibility
- Be a British Protected Person or a citizen of an eligible Commonwealth country who has been given refugee status.
- Be a permanent resident of a Commonwealth country that qualifies.
- By the start of the UK academic year in September/October 2022, you must be ready to begin your academic studies in the UK, or remotely if necessary.
- Hold a first degree with an upper second class (2:1) or a second class degree plus a suitable postgraduate certification (typically a Master's degree) before September 2022.
- Not having spent at least one year (academic) studying or working in a high-income nation
- Without this scholarship, you would be unable to pay to attend a UK institution.

Application Process
- Application for the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme should be made through the Commonwealth Scholarships Commission's Electronic Application System (EAS).
